Favorite Colors

My favorite combination of colors is probably green grass and a blue sky. Combine that with farm life and I always love that combination!

I played around with some time lapse photos today. It is really short, but I think my camera died so I didn't get as much as I planned. Still pretty pleased with it.

Another round of branding

Being able to rope a calf is a work of art, in my opinion. I have a lot of respect for these guys. Here is a look at their perspective.
A year ago at this time, Dad was unable to finish the day because he was in the hospital with 8 broken ribs after being bucked off his horse. So, here is his return this year. He makes it look so easy!
It takes a lot of communication on branding day. As you can tell, a lot is going on all at the same time. So it is essential to communicate with your teammate.

Since we timed the calves, I figured we would time how long it takes to work a small group of cows as well.

Even though we are still in a drought and we don't know if we will be able to keep our cattle because of lack of grass, we still have a lot to be thankful for. I always love the food while working cattle and I also always love hearing my dad pray.
These are just a couple more shots I got with the GoPro. Lovin' that little camera.
And of course we have to show you an update on Tiny the calf. Here he is...in all his small wonder. He was a favorite of the kids that day.

Branding Day galore!

With the busy life that is the end of the school year, I haven't had a chance to post videos from our branding day. I have a bunch so I might have a ton of different posts just to show them all.

Branding went incredibly well, and as you can see from the videos, we had an abundance of help. Since we had so many workers, I got to have a lot of fun with my GoPro camera to get some really neat shots for you.

Thanks to everyone for being understanding and either putting up with or wearing the GoPro throughout the day. Special thanks to my cousin for his willingness to participate ;-)

Here is a first-hand look at how long it takes to work our heifer calves. We try to have them on the ground for the shortest time possible.

Here is what happened a bit later.
The humans don't always have the upper hand.
A look at what it is like on branding day for probably the most important, and not human, item of the day.

So Close

We are getting so close! After a solid four hours or so of work today, here are some of the photos. We will work on it again tomorrow afternoon and see how far we get.

Here are some detail photos. Our favorite is probably the pick-up.

Getting closer

We have had to wait on the weather to cooperate lately, but we were able to get another 20 or 30 minutes of painting in during class today. When you only have that much time about two or three times a week (if we are lucky) for about three weeks, it is amazing that we get this done at all.

My two students have volunteered to come in tomorrow despite the fact that we have no school. So we are hoping to possibly finish it tomorrow.

Ytivitaerc

Here is the video some of my students created this year. The vocal teacher and I helped them along the way, but the majority of the work is theirs...as they explain at the beginning of the video. It was a long process, but well worth it.

We hope you all enjoy it!
